“RLA emailed me this beat while I was playing basketball with my dear friend Ruby-Joy in the woods. The title was “a new beginning.” I heard it and began flowing instantly in my head and abruptly left to go sit by the lake to continue writing until I couldn’t anymore. The inspiration for this piece came from the frustration of feeling as though people will misunderstand me until my words outlive my life. I think that this fear is something that is self-imposed and perpetuated unconsciously however. It often leads us to limit ourselves, in order to fit into whatever perceptions we are fantasizing that other people have of us. We are unconsciously painting our reality with this fantasy until it rules over our thoughts, behaviors, expression, and ultimately our lives, so I wrote this to fantasize a prayer of exaltation, joy and acknowledgement over myself. I hope that others can connect and tap into this feeling and take control over their story as well and live up to their unlimited potential! This piece also serves to connect to my loved ones who have ascended already, and to process grief in a way that is not based in despair. When only my lyrics remain, do not descend into melancholy, but instead dance in the dawn of today, because today is the only day! The life lived outside of the body is a different and beautiful flex available to all. Worry not that people will speak ill, for rather than shade, they throw light on my name; and if anybody asks… That is my story!”
